Three Red Lights on Xbox 360 – How I fixed it

March 16th, 2010 James No comments

Hey James here,

If you’re looking for a way to fix three red lights on Xbox 360, then I’m glad you’ve found this site and I really hope you keep reading…

That’s because this website is my uncensored story of how I fixed my Xbox 360 without having to send it back to Microsoft or buy a new one.  I’ll tell you what Microsoft doesn’t want you to know…that you can actually fix your console in a few simple steps at home without having to send it to them and pay hard-earned money to have them repair your Xbox 360.

Ok, if you are where I was a few months ago, then you don’t have a lot of money to just throw around and you are sitting there with an Xbox 360 with 3 flashing red lights.

Maybe your beloved console just took a dive for the worse or maybe it’s been working on and off for the past few months and you’ve finally come to the point that you’re tired of loosing game progress or dealing with it any longer.

That’s what happened to me.  I was in the middle of a long quest line in Dragon Age Origins and suddenly the console froze up and I lost EVERYTHING!  I was so mad.

I tried calling Microsoft and explaining the problem, but all they did was told me it was going to cost $110 plus shipping.  So that was a dead end.  I’m a broke college student.  All my money goes towards beer and rent, haha.

Next thing I did was start looking online and found something called the towel trick to fix Xbox three red lights.  I almost tried this but read some more stuff online that said it can actually melt the chip in your 360.

I almost gave up…

Until I found this do it yourself repair guide for three red lights on Xbox 360.  After reading about how bad the towel trick could be and after hearing Microsoft tell me it would be over a hundred bucks to fix my Xbox 360, I was skeptical.

But I decided to give it a try and in about 45 minutes I could turn my Xbox 360 on without getting the red ring of death.  And I did this all in my dorm room with a screwdriver.

Cool, I thought.  “How long till it’s back?” I wondered.

I still can’t believe it.  That was 3 months ago and I still haven’t even seen the slightest traces of the Xbox three red lights.

I think my console even loads faster now.  It seems like everything runs smoother after I fixed it with this method.  The only thing I didn’t like about the do-it-yourself fix is that I had to re-watch one part twice to understand what they were talking about.  Other than that, everything is explained pretty clearly with videos so you can follow along.

I hope you found this useful and you can Click Here to check it out yourself.

How to Fix 3 Red Lights on Xbox 360 – Prevention Techniques

March 14th, 2010 James 1 comment

Alright, in the last post I told you I’d give you some ways to just prevent getting three red lights on Xbox 360 all together.

Remember, I told you about how overheating was the root cause for the red ring of death.  But the system sometimes falsely overheats, causing it to start flashing red lights at you and locking you out of being able to play it.

Now if you catch this problem before it gets too bad (by preventing it) you won’t have to ever deal with 3 flashing red lights.  But if you continue to let the system overheat or think it’s overheating, it gets really hard to get rid of the red rings afterward.

So follow these tips to prevent three red lights:

  1. Don’t put your Xbox 360 on the carpet.  The carpet is like putting a blanket over your Xbox.
  2. Never stuff your console in a tight space where it can’t breathe.  Before my Xbox started flashing lights, it was packed underneath a DVD player and an old PS2.  No wonder it got so hot that it tore up!
  3. I learned about this one a little too late, but wish I would have known all along.  Buy a cooling unit.  These little things are like $20 and will really help keep your console from overheating in the first place.

If you do those 3 things, even if you are already occasionally getting three flashing red lights, you might just beat it and not ever have to deal with the red ring of death again.

Properly taking care of your console can extend the life and save you a ton of money.

But if you are already having trouble with three red lights on Xbox 360, then stay tuned for my next post.  I’m going to tell you about my exact method I used to fix my Xbox 360 in my dorm without shipping it to M-soft.

You’ll be surprised!

Three Red Lights on Xbox 360 – What Causes This Problem?

March 14th, 2010 James No comments

Ok, the Xbox 360 is awesome.  Why else would you buy it, right?  But what happens when you get the all too common three red lights on Xbox 360?  What do you do?

Well, with this post today I can help you out with that problem.  I worked at a game shop for about a year and I can’t tell you how many people came in trying to trade in Xbox 360 systems that had blinking red lights.

The first thing you got to do is understand what causes the red ring of death, before you can fix it.  It’s actually really simple, and before I learned how to fix my Xbox 360, I had no idea.  See, red lights on Xbox 360 come from too much heat.  When the system overheats it kind of shuts down so it doesn’t “damage” the hardware.

But the thing is, it’s not really damaging anything.  It’s almost like a false alarm.  But what sucks is, it locks the system up with the three red light error.

So, to sum this up, overheating is root cause for 3 red lights on Xbox 360.  There are some things you can do to help prevent it, and I’ll talk about those in the next post.

I’ll also tell you about the super secret method I learned about how to fix my Xbox 360 without shipping it off to Microsoft when it got the red light error.
